International Film Festival Rotterdam

The International Film Festival Rotterdam in a nutshell

The IFFR Rotterdam is one of Europe's leading film festivals, comparable to film festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Locarno and Venice. The Rotterdam film festival is famous for of its unique variety of international movies and for being very visitor-friendly. The Rotterdam film festival shows mainly alternative, innovative and non-commercial movies made in Asia or third world countries, but also Hollywood blockbusters can be viewed here!

Eleven days of films till you faint...

During this 11 days lasting film festival, hundreds of film makers and other artists present their work to a huge audience in various movie theatres located within Rotterdam city centre. Up to 3,000 press and film industry representatives visit the IFFR Rotterdam to report and catch the buzz on its premieres or to participate in CineMart, the largest co-production market for film projects. It's hard to imagine in today's modern world to watch a movie without commercial breaks, but during the film festival in Rotterdam, movies are shown without trailers or any other commercials!

Tiger Awards Competition

Several awards for upcoming cinematographs who show their work are presented at the IFFR festival in Rotterdam. The main award is the Tiger Award for the 3 best short films (€ 15.000 each!). One of the most famous winners of the Tiger Award is Christopher Noland, the director of Memento, Insomnia and the Batman movies.

Free parties at the Rotterdam Film Festival

During the IFFR there are many after-parties in Rotterdam, which attract loads of cultural lovers and directors from all over the Netherlands and abroad. Every night from 11 pm, The Rotterdamse Schouwburg Theatre is converted into a party lounge with DJ's. Free admission! Opening and closing party tickets can be purchased online.

" Service was great. The room was dated but nice. This is a great spot to get away as it is a little ways away from other businesses. The resort is large and has a great restaurant. "

" I just checked in and have already walked around the resort and have checked out the bar. The staff is friendly, everything seems to be clean and well maintained! The views of Mission Bay are great, and you can walk right onto the beach from the resort."

" I took my husband for his birthday. Our room was what we were expecting. Nice, clean and with a bay view. The staff was very nice. Went to the spa and had great massages. The food was great, I suggest the fillet. Two things stop me from giving it five stars. There is nothing in walking distance, but Lyft and Uber are minutes away. But it would be nice to walk somewhere else. Red wine is chilled, 55 degrees in the bar. Red wine should be room temperature. They keep the red wine with the white wine and two bartenders told us it should be chilled. I thought maybe I was wrong and looked it up. Nope. In California and they chill red wine?"

" Very disappointed. Definatly not a 4 star resort. $200+ a night for a room plus daily parking fee and additional service fees its just ridiculous the rooms aren't that nice I've paid less for much nicer. The room service fees are outrageous. I was here for a wedding. I asked them not to take my plate of food away which I'm sure was at least a $30 plate, I went to the bathroom and came back to my plate being gone. Same thing happened again with my cake. I would not recommend staying here unless you like being ripped off big time! Stay somewhere cheaper and use the money you saved to really enjoy your vacation."

" Visited Sept/2016 The Good: Being on Mission bay has it's perks, with relaxing views of the bay, walking paths, and easy day trips to Coronado, Mission Beach, La Jolla, and Delmar. Guests with upgrades can enjoy complimentary breakfast and certain water sports like paddle boarding. Any time you can incorporate fun with your exercise is a win win. The Bad: The room had a slight musty smell probably from being right on the bay and it being kind of humid. Overall: I would return here again, it's quick access to highway 5 and other cities up and down the coast make it an ideal location."
