The International Film Festival Rotterdam in a nutshell
The IFFR is one of Europe’s leading film festivals, comparable to film festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Locarno and Venice. The film festival in Rotterdam is famous for of its unique variety of international films and for being very visitor-friendly. The Rotterdam film festival shows mainly alternative, innovative and non-commercial movies made in Asia or third world countries, but also Hollywood blockbusters can be viewed here!

Twelve days of films till you faint...
During the 12 festival days, hundreds of film makers and other artists present their work to a huge audience in various movie theatres located within Rotterdam city centre. Up to 3,000 press and film industry representatives visit the IFFR to report and catch the buzz on its premieres or to participate in CineMart, the largest co-production market for film projects. It's hard to imagine in today's modern world to watch a film without commercial breaks, but during the IFFR, movies are shown without trailers or any other commercials!

Tiger Awards Competition
Several awards for upcoming cinematographs who show their work are presented at the IFFR festival. The main award is the Tiger Award for the 3 best short films (€ 15.000 each!). One of the most famous winners of the Tiger Award is Christopher Noland, the director of Memento, Insomnia and the Batman movies.

Free parties at the Rotterdam Film Festival
During the IFFR there are many after-parties in Rotterdam, which attract loads of cultural lovers and directors from all over the Netherlands and abroad. Every night from 11 pm, The Rotterdamse Schouwburg Theatre is concerted into a party lounge with DJ's. Free admission! Opening and closing party tickets can be purchased online.

The IFFR takes place in various cinemas and theatres in Rotterdam:

Pathé Schouwburgplein Rotterdam
Pathé Schouwburgplein is a centrally located cinema and is one of the biggest cinemas in the Netherlands. As a highlight it contains the movie theatre with the largest screen in the Netherlands! This cinema is located at Schouwburgplein in the Rotterdam, opposite to De Doelen Theatre (metro stop Stadhuis)

Cinerama Rotterdam
Cinerama is a magnificent and classic cinema with 7 movie theatres, It has more than 1000 seats. Cinerama is located in the centre of Rotterdam at Westblaak (metro stop Beurs).

Old Luxor Theatre Rotterdam
The Old Luxor Theatre is Rotterdam's oldest theatre (dated 1917). Enjoy the special atmosphere during the International Film Festival. The theatre is located in Rotterdam’s city centre at Kruiskade close to De Doelen Theatre. (metro stop Stadhuis or Central Station).

Rotterdamse Schouwburg
De Rotterdamse Schouwburg is one of the main stages for performing arts. This theatre is located at Schouwburgplein in the city center, opposite to De Doelen Theatre. (metro stop Stadhuis or Central Station).

The International Film Festival Rotterdam is an annual event. The 42nd edition takes place from Wednesday 25 January until Sunday 5 February 2012.

Pre-sales IFFR 2012
The IFFR ticket sales start online one week before the festival, i.e. on Friday 20 January. Via their website you can get printable e-tickets for both films and parties.

Regular tickets at theatre sales offices
Most films will be nearly sold out during the online pre-sales, but for each movie a number of tickets are reserved for regular sales at the various theatre ticket desks. Regular ticket sales start at the central festival ticket desk at De Doelen Theatre on Wednesday 25 January at 9 am. To make sure to watch a particular film, be there early on the evening itself!

Discount on IFFR movie tickets
Tickets that have not yet been sold out until an hour before the beginning of the film, are for sale with a 50% discount at the Last Minute Shop! Buy discounted tickets at the Last Minute Shop at Schouwburgplein or at the theatre.
