The Metropolis festival is the pop festival of Rotterdam, similar to Parkpop in The Hague. Less known bands perform at the Metropolis festival, but the festival has got the history that these bands eventually grow out to be known bands. For example in the past The Smashing Pumpkins, The Prodigy, Kula Shaker, Wu-Tang Clan, Train, The Strokes, Interpol, The Killers, Pete and The Pirates, Moke, Omar Souleyman, The Strange Boys, The XX and Kubus & Bang Bang all performed at the Metropolis festival before they became known.

Enjoy several music genres
The Metropolis festival usually has a line-up of more than 20 national and international artists that either perform on the main stage or one of the smaller stages. Metropolis is a unique experience and a guarantee for a nice day out with music and entertainment for the whole family! Every year tens of thousands of people come to the Metropolis festival in Rotterdam to enjoy the music. The music genres vary from rock, metal, indie, hiphop to punk, so there is something for everyone. In addition to that you don't have to pay an entrance fee for the festival which makes it very accessible!

Different bands from different countries
The Metropolis Festival is the ideal opportunity to get acquainted with known and less known bands from inside and outside the Netherlands. In 2011 there were bands like The Vaccines, Tamikrest, Black Milk, Kurt & Vile, The Violators and many others that have got their own sound and which makes the festival an event that has something to offer for everyone!

DIRECTIONS Metropolis Festival Rotterdam

The Metropolis festival is held in the Zuiderpark next to Rotterdam's multifunctional centre Ahoy in the South of Rotterdam, near the Zuidplein Mall. You can easily reach Ahoy Rotterdam by Metro or Bus, stop Zuidplein. Plan your trip with the public transport planning site www.9292.nl. It's free of charge. To travel by public transport in Rotterdam you must purchase a travel chip card first.

Metropolis Festival by car
If you come by car, follow directions to Ahoy on the Ring Motorway (A15 South - exit Zuidplein/Ahoy). You can pay to park your car in one of the parkings of the Zuidplein Mall. When there's no parking space available you can use one of the park & ride locations such as the Slinge location. When travelling to Ahoy, you might encounter some traffic nuisance, especially at major events! Parking at Ahoy costs €11,00. If this parking lot is full, you can pay to park in the Zuidplein Mall garage. From there it’s a 5 minute walk to Ahoy.
