The North Sea Jazz Festival is the world’s biggest indoor jazz festival with fifteen stages, 180 acts and 1500 musicians. The festival offers many musical genres ranging from traditional New Orleans jazz, swing, bop, free jazz, fusion, avant garde jazz and electronic jazz to blues, gospel, funk, soul, hiphop, R&B, world beat and latin. Besides these jazz legends, the North Sea Jazz Festival gives newcomers a chance to make it to the stage. Every year, The North Sea Jazz Festival presents the Paul Acket Award to an artist who deserves to be recognized for his/her exceptional musicianship. During the three weeks prior to the big NSJ weekend, Rotterdam welcomes Jazz music with every night different performances on big stages, such as in the Park at he Euromast, Hotel New York, LantarenVenster, in the Old Harbour and aboard the SS Rotterdam. Most shows are free.

The North Sea Jazz Festival is held in Rotterdam's multifunctional centre Ahoy in the South of Rotterdam, near the Zuidplein Mall. You can easily reach Ahoy Rotterdam by Metro or Bus, stop Zuidplein. Plan your trip with the public transport planning site www.9292.nl. It's free of charge. To travel by public transport in Rotterdam you must purchase a travel chip card first.North Sea Jazz Festival Rotterdam by car
If you come by car, follow directions to Ahoy on the Ring Motorway (A15 South - exit Zuidplein/Ahoy). You can pay to park your car in front of Ahoy; a lot of parking spots are available here. When travelling to Ahoy, you might encounter some traffic nuisance, especially at major events! Parking at Ahoy costs €11,00. If this parking lot is full, you can pay to park in the Zuidplein Mall garage. From there it’s a 5 minute walk to Ahoy. DATES North Sea Jazz Festival Rotterdam 2012
The North Sea Jazz Festival is an annual event in Rotterdam. The 37th edition takes place on Friday 6, Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 July 2012. Shows start around 6 pm till midnight and on Sunday from late afternoon.
The Jazz weeks in Rotterdam, called North Sea Round Town take start 2 weeks before.

Ik vond het optreden van Prince op de 1e dag heel slecht. Het geluid was erg slecht afgesteld en stond alleen maar keihard. Geen enkel nummer van vroeger gehoord van Prince, daar ga je toch ook voor.
