Red Bull Air Race Rotterdam
The Red Bull Air Race in Rotterdam is part of the Red Bull Air Race World Series, which are held in various cities around the globe like London, Perth, San Diego, Detroit, Adu Dhabi, Budapest, Porto and London. The world's most skilled pilots navigate a challenging obstacle course in the sky, in the fastest possible time. Pilots fly individually against the clock and have to complete tight turns through a slalom course consisting of specially designed pylons, known as 'air gates'.
The race starts with training and qualication rounds and only twelve pilots with the fastest times qualify for the main on the second day. The pilots show their skills to the crowd passing through each of the gates correctly and as fast as they can! While completing their course they show some spectacular aerobatic manoeuvres, like loops, rolls, spins and hammerheads!
The best pilots get points for the World Series Championship. The pilot that has earned most of the points after finshing the Red Bull Air Race Series is the Red Bull Air Race World Champion!
But the Red Bull Air Race Festival is not just the race only! There are show flights doing all kinds of stunts and demonstrations to entertain the crowd. You will be thrilled by the spectacular moves that the pilots are showing! So visit the Red Bull Air Race in Rotterdam and enjoy the excitement!
The Red Bull Air Race was free in 2005 but the local authorities decided to sell tickets for the 2008 edition for safety reasons. There too many people at the quays in the 2005 trying to get a glimpse of the race. Ticket were sold on the internet but it's unclear what will happen with the next edition.
DIRECTIONS Red Bull Air Race Rotterdam
The pilotes have to navigate through the obstacles at Rotterdam's river the Meuse. They start at the Schiehaven and fly along the river towards the Erasmus bridge. You can view the planes from the North side of the river. Dutch law forbids crowds to watch air shows from two sides, which means you can not watch the race from the South bank.
DATES Red Bull Air Race Rotterdam
The Red Bull Air Race visits Rotterdam every few years. The first edition in 2005 was a big succes and the last event took place in 2008. There's no next race scheduled yet but Rotterdam would like the race to back in a few years time! The event takes place in the summer with the qualifications on a Saturday and the race on a Sunday, usually in June or July.
