The Benelux' tallest residential tower
The Montevideo building is the highest residential tower in the Benelux countries and reaches 152 meters. It is one of the tallest buildings in Rotterdam and is located on the Southbank of the river Maas, where many other modern buildings are located. Montevideo was designed by Dutch architect Francine Houben and was opened in 2005.

A city in itself
The name of the building refers to the time when on there were many warehouses located at the Wilhelmina Pier. One of those warehouses had the name Montevideo. In the Montevideo building there are houses, offices, restaurants, shops, cafes and sports facilities located so it’sl almost a city in itself. From the tower you have a wonderful view at Rotterdam and the Erasmus Bridge. At the top of the building there’s a letter M of 8 meters high which turns with the wind.

Wilhelminapier
At the Wilhelminapier you can see an excellent contrast between modern and historical architecture, because of the presence of the historic Hotel New York. That is why the Wilhelmina Pier with Hotel New York and Montevideo is one of the most photographed sites of Rotterdam.

Montevideo is a beautiful building and has won numerous awards after its opening. This building together with the other buildings that are located on the Southbank are definitely worth a look.
