Nederlands Fotomuseum Rotterdam

The Nederlands Fotomuseum (translation: Dutch Photography Museum) is one of the best photo museums in Europe. The museum shows exhibitions about photography and administers a multifaceted collection of negatives, transparencies and prints by more than eighty Dutch photographers. You will enjoy photography from all fields varying from journalism, architecture, fashion, nature, sports, advertising and more!
Developments in the 20th century
The photographs in the collection were created by photographers who worked as freelancers or on a commission basis in and outside the Netherlands. They were used by many different clients like the media, theatre companies, fashion houses, industry and the public sector. Major and minor events were reccrded in these photgraphs showing a lively image of the social developments in the 20th century.The collection of the Nederlands Fotomuseum includes pictures of various 20th century subjects, such as the Second World War, the disastrous floods of 1953, the decolonisation of Indonesia and The Beatles. There are also photographs of Rotterdam, the harbours, almost every other place in the Netherlands and many foreign travels.
Exhibitions
There have been many exhibitions in the Nederlands Fotomuseum covering all kind of different subjects varying from Wordl Cup Football, Jazz, the development of Rotterdam Port, the emperor's wardrobe, China contemporary, Phil Colins, Iraq, popart, babies, Neorealism and much more. The museum also hosts internatonal photography exhibitions of famous photographers. The Nederlands Fotomuseum is also the national centre of expertise for photography and houses a photo restoration workshop and the Dutch Photographic Archive. There's also a shop in the museum where you can buy the latest books about Dutch photography or beautiful and remarkable prints of the pohtographs from the collection. The Dutch Photograpy Museum is located at the Wilhemina Pier at the Wilhelminakade 332 close to the New Luxor Theatre and Hotel New York. Get there by taking the metro or tram 20, 23 or 25 to Wilhelminaplein.
Parking near the Dutch Photography Museum
If you come by car you can park your car in the streets close the the museum but you will have pay using a chipcard or creditcard. You also park your car in the World Port Center parking.
