Rotterdam Blijdorp Zoo
Rotterdam Blijdorp Zoo (or Diergaarde Blijdorp in Dutch) is one of the most popular attractions in the Netherlands. You can see animals from all over the world and visit the different continents Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, Antartica and the Americas in this beautiful 150 years old zoo.
Rotterdam Blijdorp Zoo offers an exotic mix of animals from around the globe, engaging natural habitats, lush gardens and resting spots, the exciting Oceanium aquarium and ‘hands-on’ animal encounters. With innovative natural habitat exhibits and an animal collection ranging from the huge Asian elephants to the extraordinary polar bears, Rotterdam Blijdorp Zoo is one of the favorite family gathering spots in the Netherlands.
When you walk through the zoo you walk through the different continents of the world from the rainforest in Asia to savannah in Africa and from the Himalayan Highlands to the Congo Gorilla Forest. You will see animals like crocodiles, lions, tigers, gorillas, leopards, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, orang utans, sharks, snakes and many others in their natural habitats. You will be in the middle of the world's most amazing wildlife!
Don't forget to see Bokito, the huge Gorilla male who became world news in 2007 when he escaped from the Gorilla island by jumping over the ditch. During his escape Bokito dragged a woman through the zoo before entering the zoo's restaurant and causing panic among the visitors. Eventually Bokito was sedated and brought back to his enclosure where you can now safely watch him.
In the massive aquarium Oceanium you can enjoy a magical journey over the bottom of the sea and along coastal regions. You will meet many marine and coastal inhabitants such as sharks, playfull sea-otters, puffins, snakes king penguins and Galápagos giant turtoises. When you walk through the exciting shark tunnel you will feel like you're at the bottom of the sea between all the sharks and other sealife.
Rotterdam Blijdorp Zoo is a fun day out for the whole family!
