Erasmus Bridge Rotterdam
The stunning Erasmus bridge (or Erasmusbrug in Dutch) is Rotterdam’s main landmark and you can’t come to Rotterdam without seeing this bridge! The bridge is a cable-stay bridge which links the northern and southern halves of the city with a 808 meters span in spectacular style. The Erasmus Bridge is not only the longest cable-stayed bridge in the world, it is also the highest bridge in Holland: the eye-catching steel asymmetrical pylon reaches 139 meters!
Thirty two cables attached to the top of the pylon in the front and eight at the back keep the steel bridge deck in balance. The bridge deck is divided into two sidewalks, two cycle tracks, tram rails and two carriage vehicle ways and underneath the bridge deck, there’s a shop, restaurant, bar and underground parking, all part of the same construction. The deck contains a 89 meters long bascule bridge to allow big ships to pass through. The bascule bridge is the largest and heaviest in West-Europe and has the largest panel of its type in the world!The Erasmus bridge was designed by architect Ben van Erkel and was opened in 1996 by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands. It’s called “the swan” by the locals because of its graceful posture over the water. Since the opening the bridge has become Rotterdam’s most important landmark and has even become part of the city’s official logo.

It's almost impossible to miss the Eramus bridge when you come to Rotterdam. The bridge is located in city center at the riverside. You can easily reach the Erasmus bridge by taking tram 7, 20, 23 or 25 to the Willemsplein or the metro to Leuvehaven.
If you come by car you can park your car in the Erasmus parking
