Hotel New York Rotterdam
Hotel New York is one of the most well-known sights in Rotterdam. The former headquarters of the Holland-America-Line is currently a popular hotel and restaurant. Hotel New York was built between 1901 and 1917 and became the headquarters of the Holland-America-Line (HAL), a shipping and passenger line between Rotterdam and New York. Hundreds of thousands of emigrants from all over Europe boarded one of the ships of the HAL on their way to start a new life in America. Hotel New York was the last building they saw when they left Europe. In 1971 the last HAL ship departed from Rotterdam and the headquarters were closed. At present the HAL is back in Rotterdam and the European headquarters are located in the Monrevideo skyscraper next to its former headquarters Hotel New York.
In 1993 the old headquarters were transformed into a hotel and restaurant, but you can still feel the atmosphere of the old headquarters. The former boardrooms, which are meeting rooms now, and the hotel rooms still preserve a unique maritime style. It feels like staying on cruise ship in the hotel including the view at the river!
The restaurant is very popular because of the broad menu and the beautiful view at the river and the city skyline. You can enjoy breakfast, afternoon tea, lunch and dinner. The restaurant offers various menus, a-la-carte dishes and an Oyster bar with fresh shellfish and crustaceans. During the summer you can relax at the hotel’s terrace at one of the best locations in Rotterdam. Make sure you make a reservation when you want to visit the restaurant during the weekend!
Tip: take the watertaxi from the historic Veerhaven or from Leuvehaven to visit Hotel New York.
DIRECTIONS HOTEL NEW YORK ROTTERDAM
Hotel New York is located at the Konginnehoofd 1 near the Erasmus bridge and Luxor Theatre. You can easily get there by taking the metro or tram 20, 23 or 25 to Wilhelminaplein and walk from there. You could also take a watertaxi from the historic Veerhaven or Leuvehaven, close to the city center.
If you come by car you can park your car in the World Port Center parking. You can get a reduced tarif for this parking at the hotels reception.
