    Parking in Rotterdam

Parking in Rotterdam is allowed on most of the streets but you’ll have to pay, at least when you park your car in city center. You can only park for free between 23:00 hrs and 6:00 hrs and in some streets between 18:00 hrs and 6:00 hrs. In most cases You need a special card called Chipknip (which is a prepaid cash card) to park your car on the streets and pay at the machine, but some of the machines accept the major credit cards as well. None of them accept cash however. You can recognise the machines that accept credit cards by a big credit card sign above the machine. If you don't want to bother looking for credit card machines you can buy a Chipknip card at various locations like McDonalds, tabac shops and the Rotterdam transport company RET. In any case make sure that you pay the right fee and return in time because parking attendants or police will get you a hefty fine!

It’s much easier to park you car in a car park (parking) signaled by a white ‘P’ on a blue sign. There are many car parks in city center and electronic signs at the streets show the number of free spots in each garage. In all car parks you can use cash to pay at a machine when you return to your car and most car parks accept credit cards as well.

If you would like to visit city center the closest parkings are Westblaak, Bijenkorf, Beurs, Schouwburgplein, Weena, Kruiskade, V&D - WTC and Plaza. When you want to go to the Alexandrium Mall you can park in the Alexandrium or Rotterdam Noord parking and when you want to enjoy the Zuidplein Mall you can park in the Zuidplein parking. The map below shows all parkings in Rotterdam. At Friday night and during the weekends most of the parkings have a big queues so you might consider to use a Park & Ride location instead.
