Christmas Market Rotterdam city centre

A couple of years ago there used to be a big Christmas market in Rotterdam centre with many Christmas houses and stalls decorated in a charming Christmas style while Christmas music playing. But unfortunately there was no christmas market in Rotterdam centre last year and it doesn't look like there will be one this year. That doesn't mean that there are no alternatives to the Christmas market in Rotterdam centre. There are smaller Christmas markets and other fun Christmas activities.

Other Christmas Markets in Rotterdam

At the beginning of December there will be a lifestyle Swan Market with vintage clothing and bling bling at the Van Nelle Factory in Rotterdam. Though this is not a Christmas market, still it's a fun market to visit. The Swedish, Finnish, Norwegian and Danish Seamen Church organize small Christmas markets, where you can buy all kinds of Scandinavian products and might even meet Santa Claus. Also some small scale Christmas markets are held in the suburbs of Rotterdam. Another small Christmas market takes place at the Trompenburg botanic garden in Rotterdam. And last but not least the majestic Market Hall Rotterdam will beautifully decorated to get into the Christmas mood.

You can also take the Waterbus service to Dordrecht where they organize the biggest Christmas markets of the Netherlands by far. The Dordrecht Christmas market is comparable to the big German Christmas markets like the one in DÃ¼sseldorf.

Get into the Christmas mood at the Winterfair in the Ahoy convention centre. Here you can do Christmas shopping, enjoy fashion shows and visit a small Christmas village. Another a fun event with Christmas is the indoor ice rink in Rotterdam where you can celebrate Christmas with your kids. The famous Christmas Circus in Ahoy is also a splendid day out for the whole family. Christmas market Dordrecht by public transport

The city of Dordrecht is located 20 km south of Rotterdam. There are direct train services from Rotterdam Central station, Rotterdam Blaak and Rotterdam Zuid. It's less than 20 minutes ride from Rotterdam Central Station to Dordrecht Central Station. From there it's a 10 min walk to the Christmas market.

Christmas market Dordrecht by Waterbus

A fast and nice journey is the Waterbus service from Rotterdam to Dordrecht. The Waterbus jetty is located next to the Erasmus Bridge and takes you to the historical center of Dordrecht within half an hour. You can even take your bike on the fast ferry!

Christmas market Dordrecht by car

From Rotterdam, take highway A16 to Dordrecht and follow 'Dordrecht Centrum'. There are many public car parks in Dordrecht city centre, but you will have to pay! However during the Christmas market it gets really busy in Dordrecht and car parks will be full. It's recommended to park your car at the designated parkings outside the city center. Free shuttle buses will take you to the Christmas market.
