Arboretum Trompenburg Botanical Garden Rotterdam

Honingerdijk 86, 3062 NX Rotterdam

A green oasis in the concrete jungle

A beautiful botanical garden at a stone's throw away The lush and magnificently landscaped botanical garden Arboretum Trompenburg is located on the perimeter of Rotterdam city centre, within the district of Kralingen. There is an endless list of different tree species you can find, amongst others a vast collection of shrubs, trees, perennials, tubers and bulbs. Wherever you look, you'll find a corner where you can admire the beauty around you, or simply choose to stroll in a haven of peace. Still, you're not far away from the hustle and bustle of Rotterdam city.

Of course there are name tags at Arboretum Trompenburg

Arboretum Trompenburg is more than a vast collection of plants. At this amazing botanical site you will find thousands of perennials and also the national collection of Rodgersia, Hosta, bulbs, succulents and other plant types. The perennials are divided throughout the garden premises, including the national reference collection of beech, privet, dwarf, conifers, holly, oak and rhododendron. You will be able to recognize each specimen and its origin, thanks to a nameplate that will allow you to appreciate the extent of the site, a treasure trove for nature lovers and horticultures.

Guided tours through Arboretum Trompenburg Rotterdam

If you are interested in learning more about these species from around the world, you can join one of the many walks through the gardens, accompanied by a professional guide. This is a unique chance to find out about the origins and history of the plants and the garden in which they are sheltered in. During a guided tour, you will find the best spots and garden views and you will be also led through the four seasons, a showcase of how the plants evolve throughout the year.

Workshops at Arboretum Trompenburg Rotterdam

There are also various interesting activities throughout the year, which include flower arranging workshops that can either be organized with pre-determined group numbers, or simply by putting your name on the list available for the following week.

Lunch in the Tea House

The Tea House is a meeting place within the gardens' perimeter. Here, you can stop for a pause of gourmet tea, coffee or cakes, often made with the garden's own produce. On Tuesday and Wednesday, you can also sit down to have a light lunch or enjoy a more extensive menu. High Teas are available during the weekend, be sure to book in advance, though.

" Super great botanical garden. It is quiet, and the air is fresh and sweet. Large amount of different types of beautiful and relatively rare plants. Also a bird house inside the botanical garden. You can get half price with student card, and free entry with museum card."

" Lovely place to visit with beautiful gardens. There's a decent amount to look at and it's fairly big. The only downside is they close at 5pm."

" This is a beautiful and fantastic place to relax and see trees from all over the world. Some trees date back to around 1850. The collection of cactus is also amazing. The staff seems to take care of every detail. We were also lucky to see a member of the staff working on the beehives and explaining somethings. I recommend at least 3-4 to visit it (and there is a café in the entrance)."

Norbert Asschert

" A peaceful haven in the center of one of the busiest port towns in the world. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of Rotterdam and feel as if you're out in the country, you don't have to go far. The Trompenburg gardens and Arboretum will give you the peace and quiet you're looking for. Take your time to wander around the gardens and admire some beautiful old trees and landscaping. Be amazed by the luxury of the people living right next to the gardens with personal gates into the garden. But most of all enjoy the silence"
