Rotterdam is a very vibrant cultural city and offers many excellent places for the many cultural and artistic groups to show their performances. This was recognised by the European Union and therefore Rotterdam was designated the European Capital of Culture in 2001. You can enjoy anything from ballet, opera, dance, musicals, comedy, plays to experimental theatre and many other things in Rotterdam's venues. You can find many theatres in the city but the main ones are the Old and New Luxor theatres, the Zuidplein theatre and the Rotterdamse Schouwburg.
