CapelleXL: big national retail stores
CapelleXL is a shopping area that focuses on a low-budget segment, that is, compared to the Alexandrium Mall. CapelleXL is completely open air and includes big names such as Trendhopper (furniture), Beter Bed and Karwei (DIY). Across Hoofdweg road they have a huge Praxis Megastore (as well Do It Yourself). There are also some stores that somehow not joined the XL concept, such as Woonstore and Leen Bakker.

Budget shopping at CapelleXL
Thee Woonstore is a mecca for funshoppers looking for original home decoration accessories. They claim to be cheap, but in practice they are not that cheap at all... Leen Bakker is a direct competitor to Ikea with a wide range of mass furniture at fair prices.

CapelleXL is closed on Sunday
Across the road from Alexandrium, CapelleXL Mall is located in the city of Capelle aan den IJssel, but literally just across the road from Alexandrium Mall. Due to differrent regulations, this shopping area is closed on Sunday, while the Alexandrium Mall is open. The shopping area is pretty small, but our recommendation: Do visit both shopping malls, they are just at a stone’s throw away from eachother!
